Tropical Storm Dolly is rapidly moving westward after forming in the Atlantic Ocean, forecasters warned.

Tropical Storm Dolly has dissipated into a tropical wave, but its remnants are expected to begin affecting the U.S. Virgin Islands late Saturday into Sunday, bringing a wetter and windier pattern with periods of moderate to locally heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds through Monday.

An area of low pressure in the northern Gulf could briefly become a tropical depression or tropical storm before reaching the coast, according to the NHC. The system is centered about 100 miles south of the mouth of the Mississippi River and is slowly moving west at about 5 mph.
